Un gran evento se vivió el martes cuando la ciudad, el Departamento de Policía de Eagle Pass, Parques y Recreaciones y el Consulado de México se unieron a organizar el Grito de la Independencia en la Placita San Juan, un evento que por cierto esta creciendo año tras año.  El Señor Cónsul Ismael Naveja Macias se tomó un momento para elocuentemente elaborar sus impresiones de este, el evento mas importante del año para nuestro vecino país y el país de nuestra cultura Mexicana.

Eagle Pass High School Administration Jesse Montalvo, Luis Sifuentes, Vale Moreno, John Byrne and Ruben Valadez pose proudly with the plaque commemorating their acknowledgement as one of the top high schools in the nation as per US News and World Report.  The award highlights top performing public schools on a state and national level.  EPHS was awarded a National Silver Medal ranking #201 in the state and #2,251 in the nation.

Four Eagle Pass Fire Department first responders represented one fallen first responder who perished tragically in the wake of the attack on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001 and diligently took the arduous task of climbing the 120 stories of stairs inside the Tower of the Americas which symbolizes the dedication of New York's Finest who did so on that day to get to people who were trapped in the most horrific conditions you can face in the midst of the worst attack of its kind on our shores.

El Concilio de Eagle Pass aprobó un presupuesto equilibrado  de $20,335,071.00 para el Año Fiscal 2015-2016 .

Administrador Municipal Interino Héctor Chávez informó de los detalles del presupuesto que pasó por varias revisiones, así como las peticiones a los jefes de departamento para agilizar sus solicitudes debido a un excedente $1.3 millones en su primera audiencia pública.

-Commissioner's Court

 

Maverick County Commissioner's Court held a long and productive budget workshop on Monday where it was confirmed that they would hold a a similar affair with city officials in order to iron out any financial questions they may have with their sister entity.  According to sources this meeting should take place any time after September 15th and will be a three-pronged workshop with these key issues being the adoption of a master plan in reference to planning requirements, the discussion of a parkland dedication fee and the issue of the paving of Kilowatt Drive in coordination with the EPISD.

For 4 years Mission: Border Hope has been assisting Low income Families and Disaster Relief Survivors.  

This year Mission: Border Hope received a Grant from Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) to set up 4 different programs to assist our community.

While Sheriff Tom Schmerber is in Arizona attending the 2015 Border Sheriffs Coalition Conference with representatives from the PGR, he informed us that he attended an incineration of narcotics further showing the alliance between authorities from both sides of the border in the war on drugs.

A driver at the checkpoint on Highway 57 to San Antonio apparently distracted with what reports say may have been his cellular telephone, crashed into two vehicles and the checkpoint itself before coming to a stop and alerting authorities.

A man who was being pulled over by sheriff's deputies Sunday heeded the warning lights from the Sheriff's unit, pulling over to the side of the road on El Indio Highway.  The driver seemed to wait for the officer to approach him when he took off at a high rate of speed.

Eagle Pass City Councilwoman Gloria Hernandez, in a scheduled meeting with the media, informed the community of the fact that her thirteen year tenure as legal counsel for the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas has come to an end. Hernandez, a local attorney, stated that she was proud to have served the tribe and vows to continue doing so from her private practice.
