Menéndez failed to report $50,000 in donations

State Sen. José Menéndez acknowledged Wednesday that he failed to report a combined $50,000 in donations from two groups that are considered arch enemies at the state Capitol — the Texas Trial Lawyers Association and Texans for Lawsuit Reform.
The unreported contributions from the groups' political action committees to the San Antonio Democrat, each totaling $25,000, were discovered in an ongoing Texas Tribune investigation of contribution and expenditure filings at the Texas Ethics Commission.

The Maverick County Sheriff Department presented the County Commissioners Court with information in regards to an application seeking funds from the Office of the Governor Under the Violent Crimes Against Women Criminal Justice and Training Project.
During the Maverick County Commissioners Court meeting held on Monday, February 13, Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber and Maverick County Sheriff Department Grant Coordinator Ignacio Saucedo addressed the issue with the court.

At the Commissioners Court meeting on February 13, 2017 Roy Schmerber of the Maverick County Elections Office confirmed that taxpayers successfully collected the required minimum number of petition signatures to require the County to hold an election before issuing its Certificates of Obligation.
