The Eagle Pass Eagles came away with a herd fought victory against the Corpus Christi Moody Trojans.

The Eagles scrapped away at the Trojans with two runs in the first inning, one in the second and one in the third and the game ended up tied at 4-4 in the last inning.

In the first inning, Devon Torres had a two-out hit and went to second on an error by the third baseman.  Mando Lopez then hit a two-run double.

The Eagles scored their fourth run in the third inning when Lopez got on on a hit, stole second and came in on another error on the Trojan third baseman.

Tournament rules call for an extra inning and the Eagles won by getting a lone runner to second base.

Eagle Pass played Falfurrias on Friday afternoon and Dylan Cole Elguezabal held off Fal as the Eagle offense came through big time as the Eagles came away with a 10-0 win in five innings.  And the Eagles defeated the Rio Grande City Rattlers 7-2.

All District selections have ben released and receiving 1st Team honors are Ari Ruiz of CC Winn and Brianna Carreon of Eagle Pass.

Ruiz has gotten her second nod from the District 29-AAAAA committee as she was Newcomer of the Year last season.

Carreon, a fiery player with good ball handling skills, was also named First Team all-District.

Lady Maverick standouts Nelly Cedillo and fellow Super Senior Stephanie Gonzales deservedly made the 2nd Team for their exceptional contribution, leadership and the continuation of their efficiency from last season where they also received All-District recognition.  Cedillo was always there to attack the basket aggressively and provide quality defense and Gonzalez always impressed with her Regional caliber leaping abilities.  It was a sight to see her use that vertical to snag balls straight out of the air on both the offensive and defensive boards.

Lady Eagle Sophia Gomez was named Honorable Mention along with junior Jennifer Rodriguez and Amanda Maldonado of Winn HIgh.

Daniela Garza, Gomez and Carreon all made the All-Academic Team.
