Eagle Pass

A very important topic is being promoted by the Eagle Pass Chamber of Commerce in that, due to the sudden finding of petroleum in our general vicinity, the COC has made contact with a company which can help landowners determine if in fact oil or natural gas can be found on their properties.      In Dimmitt and La Salle Counties, there is a veritable boom of both petroleum and natural gas have been in progress for quite some time now, and these natural resources may extend into Maverick County.      Sandra Martinez of the Chamber of Commerce, informed The News Gram that the company will be making a presentation on December 19th at 8:00 A.M. at a restaurant on Bibb St.      These experts will touch on the benefits and aspects of finding these resources and the disadvantages of having oil and natural gas and the possibilities of signing contracts with these major corporations.      Come by and learn what you may get out of this interesting presentation or call the Eagle Pass Chamber of Commerce for more information.

Paint The Town Project celebrated their 109th event on Saturday, December 8, 2012, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at Maverick County Lake. There were over 45 volunteers who continue the group's ongoing efforts of eliminating unsightly graffiti taggings as well as retouching parts of the fencing as needed.  Student volunteers came from Sul Ross Rio Grande College, Eagle Pass and C.C. Winn High Schools, Memorial and Eagle Pass Junior High Schools.  Students also came from elementary campuses which included Liberty, Benavides, Cerna, Robert E Lee, and Reedemer Episcopal School.  In addition, there were several Girl Scout troops, as well as parent volunteers, and also helping was a volunteer from the U.S. Navy.  This was the final event for U.S. Border Patrol Community Liaison Agent Yamilka Patterson.  For the past two years through her hard work has succeeded in recruiting and organizing event benefiting the entire community.  The volunteers thanked her with a cake and wished her well, as she continues with the U.S. Border Patrol in a different capacity.  For additional information on Paint The Town Project call U.S. Border Patrol Agent Stephanie Anaya at 752-3066 or Diana L. The recently published “I'm From Eagle Pass/Soy de Ygle Pass” book has become a treasure for all residents of Eagle Pass past and present. The book is a collection of essays and reflections on life in Eagle Pass during the mid 20th century written by Jesus “Corky” Rubio.
