400 Businesses To Attend Job Fair in July 11th

The largest Job Fair of its kind in Eagle Pass will be held on July 11th at the Eagle Pass International Center for Trade.
400 businesses are scheduled to attend.  The event is geared towards minimizing the jobless rate in Maverick County.
Ronnie Rivera of the Eagle Pass Workforce Center said that more and more businesses register each day including the petroleum companies in the Eagle Ford Shale Project in Dimmit County who are offering job opportunities with good pay.
Other types of jobs and employment opportunities will also be available.
Job-seekers are asked to bring any and all documentation necessary in order to fill out applications on the spot and be ready to work immediately if hired.

Summer Sizzler 5K Gets Underway

A large gathering of local and area athletes participated in the annual 5K run organized by the Eagle Pass Parks & Recreation Department at the Eagle Pass Golf Course. A total of 121 runners took part in the race which is a new record.
The competition was held in various categories in both male and female divisions. The winner of the race was Rene Escobedo a recent graduate of Eagle Pass High School who completed the course in 16:59. John West came in second with a time of 17:17 and Jose Chavez came in third, but won the 55 and over category. These three runners took the monetary prizes awarded by the City.
The race attracted many different types of runners this year from young and old, including families who made their run accompanied by their young children, some even in baby carriages. The Alvarez Family also had many participating in the race. In the youth category, Jorge Aguilar won the mile in 7:15 and Hector Alvarez won the junior category completing the 5K in 18:48.
Another member of the Alvarez Family also received a medal. Two Year-old Alex Alvarez was awarded the youngest participant in the competition.
The PARD expects to have another race in December and thanks all who participated.

4th of July Parade Enjoyed by Many in Downtown EP

The Fourth of July Parade which is held every year at this time in coordination with all City of Eagle Pass Independence Day activities was held on Wednesday on Main Street and featured several decorated vehicles, bicycles and dignitaries who helped to make the event a success.
