In his address, Mayor Cantu commented on his experience as a former SGA president at Southwest Texas Junior College and being a former SGA mem- ber at RGC.
“It was an honor to take part in such an important activity because young college-level leaders may eventually take over roles in city government and other management areas,” said Cantu. “I think the SGA provides a unique opportunity for students to network with their communities’ officials and make a difference in the city they live in.”
Cantu added that his experience in governance is drawn from family roots in politics and an early interest that he honed by always participating on whatev- er campus he attended. “I loved learning how to handle complex situations and I encourage all students from elementary through college levels to take part in student government.” The banquet featured a video currently showing on Youtube that profiles the range of SGA and Student Services Department provided to local communities and student enrichment.

Tornado-force winds, hail, storm hit Carrizo Springs
Thursday, 09 August 2012 02:09 Published in July 2012A severe weather system ravaged the community of Carrizo Springs last night at approximately 12:30 A.M. as 40-100 MPH winds, hail, and rain felled light poles, ripped roofs off of buildings, businesses and homes as tin roofs flew by dangerously on the streets of Carrizo and debris was
scattered all along Hwy 277.
"At about 12:30, we looked out and saw tin roofs flying down the street and then we saw a tree break behind our home and a portable building was carried two blocks ending up on the lot next door," stated Adriana Ibarra, who along with her husband David, weathered the storm from their home at 700 Peña St. and said it lasted a good half hour, "That's when we heard the giant pine tree on our front yard fall through our roof, knocking down our chimney and putting a hole in our ceiling, thank God it fell to the side of the house.
Military Might Draft XM Satellite Radio Military Might Draft XM Satellite Radio
Monday, 09 July 2012 00:00 Published in July 2012BOSTON - Customers of XM Satellite Radio Inc. aren't the only ones who appreciate its digital quality and nationwide coverage. The U.S. military might draft XM's service for homeland security purposes.
XM and Raytheon Co. have jointly built a communications system that would use XM's satellites to relay information to soldiers and emergency responders during a crisis.
The Mobile Enhanced Situational Awareness Network, known as MESA, would get a dedicated channel on XM's satellites that would be accessible only on devices given to emergency personnel. The receivers would be the same as the portable ones available to consumers, with slight modifications to make them more rugged.
