Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber is asking the community to be patient as school begins and traffic becomes heavier in school zones.

Schmerber said the Maverick County Sheriff Department will be patrolling and enforcing all corresponding laws including the no cell phone use law.

"We will be enforcing the laws. We need people to be careful,” said Schmerber. “I want to make it clear that when a bus stops, you need to respect the laws and stop until the bus has cleared children crossing, and the bus is ready to move forward."

Schmerber saiddrivers must obey all traffic laws and respect school zones.

"We will be ticketing anyone that violates and does not follow the law,” said Schmerber. “We want you all to be safe, and start and end the year without any tragedies."
