Approximately 65 participants, along with friends and families, participated in Eagle Pass’ first ever canoe and kayak race on Saturday, July 2. Pictured here are the top three finishers of the canoe race, Carlos Carreon and Tomas Palomo of Piedras Negras, Santos Medrano and Arturo Alvarez of Eagle Pass, and Hector Alvarez and Cristina Lozano also from Eagle Pass. Jessie Fuentes of Epi’s Canoe & Kayak Team, who helped organize the event along with the city, said the event was so successful that they are already in preliminary talks to plan the next event. “There’s been such a great response to it that we’re trying to schedule one for Labor Day,” said Fuentes.
