The Maverick County 8.5 million dollar Certificates of Obligation election stemming from a petition from residents will be decided on May, 6, 2017. 

The petition submitted by a group of concerned tax payers for an election on the $8.5 million certificates of obligation has been declared valid, and the decision whether or not to conduct an election will be made this Friday at the Maverick County Commissioners’ Court special meeting. 

The voter petition to call an election on the $8.5 million Certificates of Obligation was deemed valid by a narrow margin at a special county meeting held on Monday, February 13, 2017.

The group of concerned Maverick County tax payers has confirmed that they had enough signatures for their petition to be valid after communicating with the state government.

A group of registered voters in Maverick County contacted The News Gram on January 17, stating that they had signed the tax rate rollback petition, but were among the registered voters that had been crossed out off the list, indicating that the Maverick County Elections Office claimed their signatures were invalid.

The fight is not over for the group of Maverick County concerned tax payers who recently petitioned for a tax rollback election, as they continue to petition the $8.5 million loan that the county is currently seeking.
