EPPD encourages safe driving as students head back to school
On Monday August 28, 2017, approximately sixteen thousand students in Eagle Pass will return to classes for the 2017- 2018 school year. Chief of Police Alberto Guajardo and the members and staff of The Eagle Pass Police Department would like to welcome back all students and school personnel, and wish them a successful school year.
The Eagle Pass Police Department as in previous years will be monitoring school zones and enforcing traffic laws to assure the safety of returning students and school personnel. The Police Department is asking the community to be vigilant and alert when driving near a school and within the posted school zones as students will be walking to and from schools and crossing streets.
The following is a message from Chief of Police Alberto Guajardo and the Eagle Pass Police Department: Always be safe.
• Do not text and drive or utilize any type of wireless communication device (cellphone) within a school zone, the fine for a citation of this nature if found guilty is $325.
• Obey all posted speed limits
• Obey school zone speed limits and watch for flashing school zone lights.
• Do not park within yellow or red painted street curbs as these are designated no parking zones and fire lanes. Vehicles found parked in these designated zones can be towed at the owner’s expense and a citation may be issued for this violation
• Do not block private driveways
• Stop, in all directions for all school buses when flashing lights are activated and students are loading and unloading
• Obey school crossing guards
• All occupants of a vehicle must wear a seatbelt. A seatbelt, if not available for a passenger means the vehicle has exceeded its approved occupancy
• Watch for children darting into the street or crossing the street at undesignated locations
• Always use your blinkers when turning or changing lanes
• Always turn into the correct lane of travel
• Always look into your blind spot
• Always perform traffic checks at intersections before proceedings through the intersection
•Always be courteous to other drivers
