An undocumented Mexican national has been ordered to federal prison for assaulting and injuring the Border Patrol (BP) agent who arrested him, announced Acting U.S. Attorney Abe Martinez. Roman Sanchez-Rivera, 27, pleaded guilty Feb. 17, 2017.
Del Rio Sector Will Host a Special Hiring Event for Women, Sept. 23
U.S. Border Patrol in Del Rio will be hosting a special hiring event for women who are interested in applying to become an agent.
Within fiscal year 2016, the Border Patrol employed 19,828 men and women across the nation; of that number, 1,439 were employed within the Del Rio Sector. Border Patrol is looking to hire more.

United States Border Patrol agents stationed in Carrizo Springs reported the finding of a deceased individual in a remote area in the south side of Dimmit County. Reports state that the individual is believed to be an undocumented immigrant who could have died of dehydration due to extremely high temperatures. U.S. Border Patrol reports that the body was in an advanced state of decomposition.

Del Rio Sector Border Patrol Agents Seize 1,000 lbs of Marijuana, $900 Worth of Ecstasy
Two Apprehended in Nine Separate Cases
U.S. Border Patrol agents working in the Del Rio Sector seized 1,007.7 pounds of marijuana, valued over $ 806,248, as well as 54 pills of ecstasy, worth $908, in nine separate incidents. One United States citizen and one Mexican national were arrested in conjunction with these events.
Six hour standoff in Quemado
Rodrigo Gonzalez arrested after barricading himself in mobile home

Local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies were involved in a six hour standoff with an individual on a ranch off of FM 1908 near Quemado,Texas on Tuesday, April 4, 2017.
At approximately 1:00 pm, an emergency call came into the Maverick County Sheriff Department in which an individual was reported to have broken into a mobile home to rob the residence.
Reports state that a ranch hand entered the mobile home which was located on a ranch off of FM 1908, and startled a man, identified as Rodrigo Gonzalez, with one of several weapons that were inside the trailer. The weapons included a shotgun, two high caliber weapons, and three hunting rifles, one of which had a night scope, all of which are currently in possession of the Maverick County Sheriff Department. Gonzalez fired a single shot at the ranch hand but missed. The ranch hand fled and called the Sheriff Department to report the incident.
Law enforcement agents arrived at the scene and found Gonzalez barricaded inside the structure.
A standoff with Gonzalez then ensued for more than six hours, and involved numerous law enforcement agencies.
DPS SWAT and U.S. Border Patrol Tactical Operations Team were then organized, and at 8:00 p.m. proceeded to storm the mobile home, and were able to detain Gonzalez.
The Maverick County Sheriff Department would like to thank USBP BORTAC, DPS, Eagle Pass Fire Department, Assistant Fire Chief Rodolfo Cardona, EMS, Constables Hernandez and Chacon, ICE, and Texas Rangers for their assistance during the incident.
Gonzalez is believed to be Schizophrenic, and was taken into custody and will await due process or be submitted to a mental institute for mental health treatment. He is being charged with burglary of a habitation and deadly conduct.
Gonzalez had previously burned down his own home on the corner of Zacatecas and Vista Hermosa in June 2016, and was sent to San Antonio for psychiatric evaluation.
In January 2016, Gonzalez was arrested by the Eagle Pass Police Department after verbally assaulting associates at Academy Sports + Outdoors who asked him if he had a valid license as he insisted he be sold a firearm.

US Border Patrol Del Rio Sector held a press conference Tuesday morning at Shelby Park to discuss the Border Safety Initiative and the dangers of crossing the border illegally. The focus of the conference was on undocumented immigrant deaths and those rescued by US Border Patrol.
USBP helps find missing man
U.S. Border Patrol agents, game wardens, Kinney County sheriff’s office deputies, and CBP Air and Marine units located and air-lifted a 68-year-old man who was lost for several hours in remote and arduous terrain.
