Sheriff deputy faces assault charges
On Wednesday March 28,2018 at around 11:12 PM Eagle Pass Police Department responded to a residence within the 600 block
of Medina St. in reference to a family disturbance. Responding officers spoke with the female complainant who informed officers she was allegedly struck in the upper body with a closed fist by a male subject which caused her to fall to the ground. The male subject identified as 29 year old Aron Horta a Maverick County Sheriff Deputy was placed under arrest for the alleged crime.

Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber has announced that his department has obtained 36 brand new bullet proof vests for his deputies. Schmerber has stated that the safety wear cost approximately $10,000. The purchase was part of a strategic plan which included the renewal of security equipment and other facets including the purchase of some new vehicles as well.
