The Eagle Pass Fire Department responded to an emergency call in the Quemado area at approximately 12:30 PM on Tuesday January 30.

The Eagle Pass Fire Department is encouraging the public to follow proper safety protocol when using fireworks this holiday season.

More and more assistance is needed to rescue people trapped as catastrophic rains brought on by Hurricane Harvey continue. 

Eagle Pass firefighters Adrian Davila, Joe Garza, and Eduardo Alvarez will be traveling to San Antonio to be part of the ambulance staging crew.

“What they do is as ambulances from all over the state start arriving they start staging those ambulances and giving them orders of where they’re going to be headed,” said Fire Chief Manuel Mello. “It’s the main hub of where all ambulances go and meet.”

Mello said the men will most likely be sent for approximately five days to the Houston and Galveston areas where much of the damage is being seen. 

“There’s extensive flooding, there’s a need for boats out there to do evacuations, there’s a lot of people that were stranded in their houses, in their community,” said Mello. “There’s a lot of devastation. This is something that’s going to be there for days to come.” 

The Maverick County Sheriff’s Department will also be sending assistance to flooded areas. Two deputies are being sent to Victoria, two more to Houston, and one to Corpus Christi to help with security needs, said Sheriff Schmerber.

The situation will be assessed, but it is very likely that deputies will be sent to the severely damaged communities for up to five months, he added.

   Se necesita más y más ayuda para rescatar a las personas atrapadas a medida que las lluvias catastróficas provocadas por el huracán Harvey continúan.

  The Eagle Pass Fire Department is taking precautionary measures to avoid problems caused by heavy rains as a result of Hurricane Harvey.

 The Eagle Pass Fire Department will be conducting a special training in which they will be setting a house on fire.

   The training will take place Saturday, July 22, at a house near the old water filtration plant downtown. 

   Fire Chief Manuel Mello is advising the community of the procedure so that they are not alarmed when they see the live fire training which will begin at 3:00 p.m. 

  “We’re going to be igniting one of the houses, and when we do that there’s going to be a plume of smoke and people are going to want to find out what’s going on,” said Chief Mello. “There’s going to be a lot of onlookers; all we can say is to be careful and not to cross the barricades where we’re working because people may get hurt.”

   Chief Mello said the opportunity to create a live burn for training purposes is very rare.

   “One [reason] is because too close in the city there’s residences that are occupied,” he said. “In this scenario there’s nobody living right next door to those houses, so it’ll be a perfect way for us to train.”

 The training will allow department staff to practice ventilation purposes, strategic placement of hoses, and fire behavior.

   Eagle Pass Fire Department personnel, volunteer firefighters, and even firefighters from Piedras Negras will be present at the training. 

  “It’s something that we’re really looking forward to,” said Chief Mello.

Bomberos tendrán simulacro de incendio en casa

 El Departamento de Bomberos de Eagle Pass llevará a cabo una capacitación especial en la  que prenderán fuego a una casa  

La capacitación tendrá lugar el sábado, 22 de julio, en una casa cerca de la antigua planta de filtración de agua del centro.

  El Jefe de Bomberos Manuel Mello está aconsejando a la comunidad del procedimiento para que no se alarmen cuando vean el entrenamiento de fuego  que comenzará a las 3:00 p.m.

  "Vamos a  prenderle fuego a una de las casas, y cuando hagamos eso va a haber  humo y la gente va a querer saber lo que está pasando", dijo el jefe Mello. "Habrá muchos espectadores; Todo lo que podemos decir es  que tienen que tener cuidado y no cruzar las barricadas donde estamos trabajando porque la gente puede resultar herida ".

   El Jefe Mello dijo que la oportunidad de crear una  incendio de una casa  en vivo para propósitos de entrenamiento es muy rara, y permitirá al personal del departamento practicar ventilación, colocación estratégica de mangueras y comportamiento del fuego.

 "Una [razón] es porque demasiado cerca en la ciudad hay residencias que están ocupadas", dijo. "En este escenario no hay nadie viviendo justo al lado de esas casas por lo que será una manera perfecta para entrenar".

   Personal del Departamento de Bomberos de Eagle Pass, bomberos voluntarios e incluso bomberos de Piedras Negras estarán presentes en el entrenamiento.

  "Es algo que realmente estamos deseando hacer ", dijo el Jefe Mello.

The Eagle Pass Fire Department responded to a car fire early Sunday morning at the Wagon Wheel parking lot. 

“When the guys showed up there the vehicle was fully engulfed,” said Assistant Fire Chief Rodolfo Cardona. “They extinguished the fire and the owner showed up and they released the vehicle to him. The cause is undetermined right now investigators will be working on it to determine if it was accidental.”

Cardona also advises the public to be safe when lighting fireworks this Fourth of July, especially because of potential grassfires like the one that occurred on Sunday near the River Vega.

“We obviously want adults with children utilizing any fireworks because we don’t want children to be injured, hurt, burn and we want them to have a happy, but safe fourth of July,” said Cardona. “We would prefer people come and enjoy the firework display at shelby park where it’s a safe environment, it is controlled, and we have firemen who are actually on standby in that area. The city goes out of their way to celebrate the Fourth of July for the citizens of our city, and we want them to go out and enjoy it. It’s safer and prevents fires in the rural areas.”

Cardona would also like to remind the public that fireworks are illegal to possess, ignite or explode within city limits. 

Bomberos acuden a reporte de un auto incendiado

 El departamento de bomberos de Eagle Pass respondió a un incendio de un auto el domingo por la mañana en el estacionamiento de Wagon Wheel.

  "Cuando los bomberos se presentaron  el vehículo estaba completamente  en llamas ", dijo el Jefe Auxiliar de Bomberos Rodolfo Cardona. "Extinguieron el fuego .

 La causa es indeterminada ahora los investigadores estarán trabajando en ella para determinar si fue accidental ".

   Cardona también aconseja al público estar a salvo al encender fuegos artificiales este Cuatro de Julio, especialmente debido a los posibles incendios de hierba como el que ocurrió el domingo cerca del Río Vega.

   "Obviamente queremos que los adultos con niños utilicen fuegos artificiales porque no queremos que los niños resulten heridos,  queremos que tengan un feliz, pero seguro cuarto de julio", dijo Cardona. "Preferiríamos que la gente venga y disfrute de la exhibición de fuegos artificiales en el parque Shelby, donde es un ambiente seguro, está controlado y tenemos bomberos que están realmente trabajando en el area.

La ciudad quiere que  los ciudadanos celebren el Cuatro de Julio para los ciudadanos de nuestra ciudad, y queremos que salgan y lo disfruten. 

Es más seguro y evita los incendios en las zonas rurales ".

   Cardona también quisiera recordar al público que los fuegos artificiales son ilegales  dentro de los límites de la ciudad.

  A fire behind Skillets on Tuesday at approximately 1:30 p.m. is now being investigated as arson, a second degree felony.

   The fire began outside the rear of the restaurant and reached the top of the building, when people in the area began to call in about the noticeable flames.
