The Maverick County Sheriff Department and United States Border Patrol agents were involved in a high speed pursuit on Friday, January 12 at approximately 12:30p.m. when they attempted to pull over a vehicle on Highway 277 headed towards Carrizo Springs.

U.S. Border Patrol agents rescued a family of undocumented immigrants, one of whom passed away, and found 14 others who were lost in the cold.
“Crossing the border illegally poses multiple hazards,” said Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Felix Chavez. “Sadly another human life was lost yesterday while attempting to illegally enter the United States.”
Eagle Pass BP agents arrest convicted felon and MS-13 Gang member
U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Eagle Pass Station arrested two previously deported men who illegally entered the U.S., in separate incidents.
“Dangerous individuals continuely attempt to infiltrate the United States to engage in criminal activity,” said Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Felix Chavez. “The men and women of the U.S. Border Patrol are this country’s first line of defense against these threats.”
The first incident occurred on Nov. 26, when agents arrested Oscar Armando Mercado-Roque, 34, El Salvador. During processing, agents learned that he was convicted in June 2008, for involuntary vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated in Prince William County, Virginia. Mercado-Roque was removed from the United States in February 2015 after serving six years of a 10-year sentence. Mercado-Roque faces a charge of 8 USC § 1326 – re-entry after deportation, which carries a maximum sentence of two-years in prison.
The second incident occurred on Nov. 28, when agents arrested Jose Abilio Carballo-Parada, a 49-year-old from El Salvador. Record checks showed that Carballo-Parada is a confirmed MS-13 gang member with multiple deportations and an extensive criminal history including a drug trafficking conviction. Carballo-Parada was most recently removed from the United States in June of this year. He faces a charge of 8 USC § 1326 – re-entry after deportation, which carries a maximum sentence of two-years in prison.
