According to the City Secretary, there will be no more registrations allowed for the upcoming elections in May. At the close of registrations on March 1st at 5:00 P.M., no more applications will be taken. As of right now, the only one who will have an opponent will be Mayor Ramsey English-Cantú, Luis Sifuentes and Rudy Villalpando will run unopposed. Authorities are advising that now is the time to register if you wish to do so at City Hall. Eagle Pass will hold elections on May 11th, 2013. The next elections won't take place until 2015.

The Mexican Consulate will hold a conference to discuss the dangers of breast and cervical cancer. The discussion will be given by Silvia Olivares and Rebecca Rios who are experts on the issues and they are familiar with local cases in the area. The program will begin at 10:00 A.M. in the Conference Center at the Mexican Consulate on Garrison. All women are encouraged to attend and learn about these life threatening illnesses and that can be treated and even prevented if detected early. Health authorities in Eagle Pass have said that early detection is the key in dealing with cancer and have announced that in Eagle Pass there are programs which, if women qualify, they can receive exams which can detect these types of cancer. Cancer is an ailment which has run rampant in the Eagle Pass area and they wish to raise awareness amongst women of the importance of taking care of oneself and of their family. Mexican Consulate Ricardo Santana, said that through several agencies and in coordination with his office, he wishes to host conferences such as this to promote health and to combat diseases. Since these seminars are free of charge, people should take advantage of them.
Benefits of the Eagle Ford Shale Project: Per Capita has increased

According to Ronnie Rivera of the Middle Rio Grande Development Council, the region in which the Eagle Ford Shale is operating has seen an increase in per capita.
Maverick County in particular has shown an increase in the annual income per person.
In the Eagle Ford Shale Project alone a total of 5,300 permits have been granted which has been an incredible economic factor to our region.
Dimmit County has shown the most increase with 36% from 2008 as the average per capita income was $25,205 and has gone up significantly to $34,379.
other counties which have shown similar increases are: McMullen, LaSalle, Zavala and Live Oak.
Many are working for the petroleum companies according to Rivera.
The present per capita income in Maverick County is $22,188 up from $19,038 in 2008.
Per capita income has increased 1.3% across the state while in Maverick County it has increased 13%.
This boom has translated into significant economic development which is projected for the next 20 years or more.
