Eagle Pass

The Department of Public Works in Eagle Pass is working to better our streets, namely Second Street from Comal to Trinity and due to this, Second Street will be closed and motorists should be aware that they will need to take the necessary precautions to avoid traffic jams and backlogs which will go hand in hand with these closings.      Equally, other reparation projects on Second Street will begin this December 4th according to press releases from the City of Eagle Pass and heavy equipment and municipal employees will be utilized and will be en force in this area. The barricades will be set up throughout the process in order to direct the flow of traffic and authorities say they will adopt measures to continue the flow of traffic as to not interrupt day to day traffic in this area. The city asks that residents be patient with the sound and the dust of the construction in the area. Please obey the traffic signs and the construction signs.  No parking will be allowed in the Second Street area. Second Street will be closed from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. to facilitate the completion of said projects.

Eagle Pass

 

A 40 year old man identified as Laurencio Ledezma who was found lifeless at his home on Friendly Street on the south side of Eagle Pass is being investigated by the Maverick County Sheriff's Department.      Tere Melendrez informed The News Gram that the family members found the lifeless body of Ledezma and the body has been sent for autopsy.      The incident occurred on Saturday and authorities stated they had found his lifeless body in his home.  The Justice of the Peace stated that there are suspicions that he may have intoxicated himself to death with an excess amount of medication.      The results of the autopsy are pending, but this is the third such finding of an elderly person found dead of 'Natural causes' which is of serious concern to local authorities.

As Me chi mi si ka arrived to demonstrate what truly is the culture and heritage of his people adorned in full Kickapoo garb complete with truly magnificent black war paint directly under his eyes trimmed in white, which is indicative of the Kickapoo and all tribes have their own to be able to distinguish themselves from any other tribe. Me chi mi si ka wielded his eagle claw staff and eagle feather headdress and completely entranced all in attendance with three tribal dances closing out a program rich in Native American language and history to celebrate Native american Heritage Month. Pi ka o da, of the Cultural Advisory Council, Cha ko da ta and Na na te a, members of the Kickapoo Tribal Council, were also on hand to receive a proclamation from the Honorable Ramsey English-Cantú, Mayor of Eagle Pass which added an official touch to the festivities. E ne de na, Superintendent of Tribal Education Programs was introduced by A pi si no cua who eloquently introduced the keynote speaker of Cherokee and American descent who has worked with the Environmental Protection Agency in Dallas and is a professor of research at North Texas University and a Delegate to the Cherokee Nation who was also adorned in a horse hair and eagle-feathered hat when he addressed the gathering about the accomplishments and contributions of Native Americans to the world in relation to agriculture, politics, communications, mathematics among other important contributions to society.
