As the family members of Jaime Moreno attempt to put together their sentiments and their lives after the sudden suicide of the patriarch of their family yesterday afternoon, it leaves all involved with the question of why one would take such a definitive measure to avoid problems during what is now the holiday season. Moreno, who until recently worked at the GEO prison, had been experiencing problems we all may have to face in terms of family, work and providing for himself and his loved ones. It is during these times, law enforcement officials say, that these types of situations come to light and people take extreme measures to avoid facing life's problems.

Four schools were on lockdown after law enforcement officials were called to the San Juan Street area for an attempted suicide. What would eventually be a 4 hour standoff between local law enforcement and the obviously troubled man, culminated when the man shot himself in the chest area with a .38 caliber weapon.

Paint The Town Project celebrated their 109th event on Saturday, December 8, 2012, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at Maverick County Lake. There were over 45 volunteers who continue the group's ongoing efforts of eliminating unsightly graffiti taggings as well as retouching parts of the fencing as needed.  Student volunteers came from Sul Ross Rio Grande College, Eagle Pass and C.C. Winn High Schools, Memorial and Eagle Pass Junior High Schools.  Students also came from elementary campuses which included Liberty, Benavides, Cerna, Robert E Lee, and Reedemer Episcopal School.  In addition, there were several Girl Scout troops, as well as parent volunteers, and also helping was a volunteer from the U.S. Navy.  This was the final event for U.S. Border Patrol Community Liaison Agent Yamilka Patterson.  For the past two years through her hard work has succeeded in recruiting and organizing event benefiting the entire community.  The volunteers thanked her with a cake and wished her well, as she continues with the U.S. Border Patrol in a different capacity.  For additional information on Paint The Town Project call U.S. Border Patrol Agent Stephanie Anaya at 752-3066 or Diana L.
