Eagle Pass

The City of Eagle Pass has approved about $100,000.00 in resources in order to buy a training tower facility to better prepare our fire fighters in the training for emergencies involving blazes in buildings taller that one story as the facility will be a three story structure. The structure will be installed at the Cardona Unit on El Indio Highway. Chief Jesus Rodriguez stated that the funds were in actuality approved in the month of October and he expects construction to begin soon. The three-story building will simulate a building and will be used to effectively respond to emergency situations and how to get to living humans within the inferno of a blaze. They will train on how to climb up to a burning structure and how to return safely below. Many large cities in the US already have such a facility for their fire departments to train in and now Eagle Pass will have the luxury of having the same.

In an accident which has left officials and investigators puzzled, a motorist drove his 2007 Chevy Silverado Pickup into the Municipal Swimming Pool on Second Street. The incident occurred at approximately 6:00 A.M. on Sunday when a young driver lost control of the vehicle and plowed through the cyclone fence of the public swimming pool facility and into the empty pool. When the truck came to a stop, it ended up in a horizontal position within the pool and with a broken front axel as its front left wheel had come off completely due to the impact. The driver identified as Cesar Rodriguez, 21, was driving down Memorial Drive, the street that travels directly through the Maverick County Cemetery when he ran right through the fence and into the pool causing $5,000.00 damage according to initial reports. The man and his passenger were unharmed, but were evaluated medically and then released. According to sources, another vehicle may have been involved and details as to how the truck may have ended up crashing through the fence, all that is known at this time is that the vehicle in fact ended up falling into the six foot pool. A wrecker was used to extract the truck from the pool.

The EPPD has three news police officers who were sworn in on Friday and received their badges after their successful completion of their training. They are: Janie Flores, Esmeralda Lopez and Alejandro. In a very special celebration held at City Council Chambers, these three new officers received their badges and their 'Dress blues'. Friends and family gathered at the ceremony to congratulate them and wish them well in their new job. Chief Antonio Castañeda, in an emotive speech informed the new officers of the significance and the symbolism of their badge, stating that with it, they have agreed to wield it and have also agreed to accept the great responsibility that goes along with it as well.
