Police Department officials confiscated 271 pounds of marijuana on Wednesday afternoon which were hidden in the tool compartment of a Ford F-150 pick up truck.

Sandra Martinez, Directress of the Eagle Pass Chamber of Commerce, informed The News Gram that they are organizing a clean-up campaign entitled "Operation Clean Sweep" which will clean up downtown Eagle Pass. She said organizations, clubs, social groups or students can volunteer to help with this event whose goal is to clean up downtown in order to give it a positive aspect to tourists and/or the patrons who frequent it on a daily basis as it does represent the first block in our city.

The Eagle Pass Police Department acquired a new official K-9 officer, a canine which will serve in upgrading security and vigilance in our community. Chief of Police Antonio Castañeda, informed The News Gram this morning that officers will be traveling to Austin to transport the dog who has been extensively educated and trained to function in many ways which can assist a police force. The cost of these animals can be up to $8,000.00 and the City already has other canines which belong to the Labrador species which are very useful for various types of investigations.
