Eagle Pass born Tres Barrera, who last month was called up by the Washington Nationals, has reached one of his childhood dreams and is currently participating in the MLB World Series. Barrera, who was born in Eagle Pass is listed as the teams backup catcher and is ready to step in to play if called upon by his team who currently have a 1 game lead against the Houston Astros. 

Barrera was called up by Nationals in early September after Nationals starting catcher, Kurt Suzuki, was injured on September 8th.

Tres Barrera is fulfilling his life long dream of playing in the major leagues and reaching the World Series. Barrera was born in Eagle Pass, Texas and grew up here until his family moved to the Rio Grande Valley when he was ten years old. He attended Sharyland High School, where he played both football and baseball. He played college baseball at the University of Texas and was drafted by the Washington Nationals in the six round of the 2016 MLB Amateur Draft out of the University of Texas at Austin.

Another baseball player from the area is also playing in the World Series. Jack Mayfield from Del Rio is playing with the Houston Astros.

Congratulations to both young men for their hard work and dedication to the game they love so much.
