LOS ANGELES (AP) — 

The Material Girl has still got it. Julien's Auctions said Saturday that bidders worldwide sought items from Madonna's professional and personal life during the two-day Icons & Idols: Rock n' Roll auction in Beverly Hills that started Friday.

The auction house says the gown and stole from her "Material Girl" video sold for $73,125, while the wedding dress the pop icon wore when she married Sean Penn in 1985 brought in $81,250.

Nicki Minaj rapped about shortbread and Ariana Grande capped a breakthrough year with two trophies as the MTV Europe Music Awards celebrated its 20th anniversary Sunday with a Scottish-accented show in Glasgow.

Grande was named best female artist and also took the best-single prize for "Problem," one of a string of hits she's had this year. The 21-year-old American singer said she was doubly grateful to the EMAs — meeting Iggy Azalea at last year's awards show led directly to working with the Australian rapper on "Problem."

"This is absolutely crazy," Grande said after her second win of the night.

WASHINGTON (AP) — 

 

Three days after voters registered their sourness about the U.S. economy, the government said Friday that employers added a solid 214,000 jobs in October, extending the healthiest pace of hiring in eight years.

The Labor Department also said a combined 31,000 more jobs were added in August and September than it had previously estimated. Employers have now added at least 200,000 jobs for nine straight months — the longest such stretch since 1995.
