Sheriff Tom Schmerber celebrated Law Enforcement Appreciation Week with a luncheon for officers from the sheriff department and other agencies on Friday, May 19.
The sheriff thanked each officer with a gift, and voiced his gratitude for their service in a job that is dangerous and often takes them away from their families, especially during holidays.

US Border Patrol visited students at Pete Gallego Elementary Thursday morning to teach them about the dangers of drugs as part of the new program Operation Childproof.
County officials including Maverick County Judge David Saucedo, District Judge Amado Abascal, County Clerk Sara Montemayor, and District Clerk Leopoldo Vielma hosted three 6 grade classes from Seco Mines Elementary at the Maverick County Courthouse on Thursday.
