The City of Eagle Pass approved the first reading of the natural gas price increase at the meeting on Monday, July 10.
Texas State Natural Gas has been increasing prices for residential sales, small volume commercial and industrial sales, large volume commercial and industrial sales, and public authority sales within the city in increments for the past five years in order to bring prices up to a reasonable amount . The 2017-2018 fiscal year will be the last year the rates are scheduled to increase until a price change is needed for cost sales adjustment.
“Rather than go with a big tariff we decided to go every year for six years,” said Carlos Libson of Texas State Natural Gas. “It’s $49,000 total on 2,700 customers.”
Libson also mentioned that the company has been assisting customers, mainly the elderly, to replace rotting yard lines with more modern pipes.
