The Maverick County Hospital District held a public hearing on the proposed Ad Valorem Tax rate on Wednesday, August 14, 2019.

During the hearing the MCHD Board of Trustees presented information regarding the new tax rate which will have an increase as compared to the previous year. MCHD Board Secretary Aaron Valdez presented the new tax rate which will go from $0.12968 cents to $0.14, which is less than $0.2 cents increase.

Valdez opened the public meeting for any comments from those present, which had none.

The MCHD closed down the public hearing and proceeded to hear a presentation regarding this year's budget.

The MCHD is in the process of setting their yearly budget which is used to operate the District's operations and medical services.

MCHD Board President Jesus Casas and Vice President Becky Robinson were not present during the meeting.

Back on August 3, the MCHD Board met in a special meeting in which the board discussed the tax rate and decided to follow their financial committee's recommendation to propose an increase to the tax rate.

The Board, except one member, agreed to consider the increase if and only the revenues were used for the expansion of medical services, which includes bringing in a Neurologist, Gastroenterologist and expanding the District's medical facility to better serve the public.

The MCHD Board of Trustees is composed of President Jesus Casas, Vice President Becky Robinson, Secretary Aaron Valdez, Trustee Adolfo Olivares, and longtime trustee Juan Manuel Farias.
