Ruiz states that he - as a government official - feels that political differences are hindering local governing agencies from working together, let alone sit at the same table.
“I know that invitations were sent out to public officials for the school district’s ribbon cutting ceremony of the new tax payer District Service Center, but they did not bother to invite the Maverick County Commissioner's Court. I feel that was premeditated. They did not bother to include us and I feel it is discriminatory. This is not the first time they do this to us. I understand if you have a special private party you get to invite whoever you want if it is your money. In this case it's a taxpayer entity snd it's public!
We as a governmental agency are also part of this community.
This creates more divide in our community, which ultimately affects the taxpayer, resident, and our children,” stated Ruiz. “I feel offended that they premeditatedly did not invite us. I mean, certain invitations sent out had two invites, one for the public ceremony and another for the privileged few for a private event to welcome in the new Superintendent and his cabinet. I honestly feel all of this is a lack of professionalism and courtesy, and political immaturity.”
“I truly am flabbergasted that as an educator for 33 years and a public official, I was not worthy of an invitation to this positive step for our community,” concluded Ruiz.
