Reaching the moon was a giant leap for mankind which made way to the success of the United States NASA program.
The City of Eagle Pass celebrated the golden anniversary of the moon landing at the Public Library.
During the moon landing celebration E.P. City Manager George Antuna presented the children in attendance vital information of that very day.
Mr. Antuna's presentation to community 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th graders included accounts of the very day that American Astronauts touched down in the surface of the moon.
The Apollo program’s total cost was about $25.4 billion, about $152 billion in today’s dollars.
On that fateful day, Buzz Aldrin, Neil Armstrong, and Michael Collins were the three Americans Astronauts who reached the moon's surface.
One will never forget Neil Armstrong's echoing words as he became the first man to set foot on the moon.
“That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind,” said Armstrong.
To this day those very words resonate as one of the world's most famous quote's. The U.S. moon landing took 8 years to achieve after President John F. Kennedy announced the nation's intentions.
