Eddie Guerra of the Middle Rio Grande Development Council informed the Maverick County Commissioners Court that the organization is currently implementing a text to the 911 system.
Guerra informed the court that with this new system anybody in a predicament in which they cannot place a voice call can text 911 and provide information to law enforcement officials.
This type of information and system is important and will assist in numerous ways, including providing victims of domestic violence, school students, and anyone who needs emergency assistance but cannot communicate with 911 operators directly another way of relaying their emergency.
“We are currently conducting field testing in our nine County region. We are in the process of implementing “Texting to 911” systems. We will be going live very soon and are hoping that we can also implement video calls in the future as well,” said Guerra.
“We will be letting the public know about this important tool that is being added to the 911 systems once it's fully operational.”
“This is a very important tool that is being implemented to the 911 system.
This new texting system to 911 will allow anyone who cannot communicate with an emergency operator directly, will be able to text their message through,” added Guerra.
