A group of local veterans from all branches of the military and other individuals from the community continue bringing attention to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

During June, individuals across the entire nation recognize and bring light to issues related to PTSD, which affect thousands of military veterans.

The local group is scheduled to hold a 10 K Ruck on Saturday, June 22, 2019, in support of “For the 22”, which advocates and brings attention to a high increase of veteran suicides in our country.

Several years ago a Department of Veterans Affairs conducted a study which found that over 20 veterans take their own lives on a daily basis. This staggering figure continues to hold true as military veterans continue dealing with the consequences of war throughout their lifetime.

“It’s very important for everyone to know what our veterans go through and how we as a society can help them,” says a local military veteran.

The Ruck group began their awareness march from the Fort Duncan Museum area at 07:00 am, accompanied by family and supporters.

Locally, in Maverick County it is estimated that there are over 1,500 military veterans who have served our country. Over 53 of them died in combat and many others continue paying the price for their service to our country, often afflicted by PTSD and other health issues.
