From their plight to instill and live by their traditions, to being recognized and entrusted their own land by the Federal Government in 1985.
The Kickapoo have accomplished so much in their unified efforts to keep those traditions alive and also assure that their future generations never suffer and are afforded their every right, education, and opportunities.
After several years of pushing forth those unwavering efforts, the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas is set to construct educational facilities for their children and future generations.
A groundbreaking ceremony for the Tribe's educational facilities will be held on Friday, June 28, 2019, at the Kickapoo Reservation.
The magnitude of such event is better understood if we, as a Nation, remember the Tribe’s trials and tribulations to secure the recognition they so much deserved as one of the traditional native tribes in the United States.
The Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas has come a long way since then, and have become an economic engine in our region, who have kept their traditions alive but have changed for the better with the times.
During their history, the Kickapoo have faced hardships, but have always persevered to survive and thrive.
They continue doing so with great pride of who they are and where they have come from. No longer are they a people who have quenched their thirst from a single spigot surrounded by Wickiups on the banks of the Rio Grande River.
However, now they are a flourishing social economic oasis in Maverick County.
