The City of Eagle Pass will be holding the Cruz Antonio MuЦoz Gymnasium Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Saturday, June 1, 2019, at 9:00 am, at 2086 Roosevelt St.

The community is invited to attend and welcome in the city’s new gymnasium project, which had been in the works for the past year.

The City will also be holding numerous exhibition games after the ceremony. Back in the month of April, Eagle Pass Mayor Ramsey E. Cantu and members of the City Council met with Mr. MuЦoz to announce their decision to name the gymnasium in his honor. He graciously accepted the City of Eagle Pass’ recognition. Mr. MuЦoz is a long-time community volunteer little league coach.

“Congratulations to Coach Cruz Antonio MuЦoz who has dedicated over 30 years of volunteer service as a little league coach and as an educator on the south side of Eagle Pass. We look forward to the formal opening of this gym on the south side, taking place soon. Once again, congratulations to Coach MuЦoz and his wife Rosalia for this great honor. We thank you for all that you have done for the youth of our city,” stated Mayor Cantu.

The Burr Park Gymnasium project has been under construction for the past 8 months after the city secured close to $800,000 in grant funding.

The Eagle Pass City Council held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Burr Park Gymnasium on Thursday, February 8, 2018. The total cost of the project will be $2.2 million dollars. The gym will have double courts, bleachers, showers, and other amenities. The City will also be able to use the building as an emergency shelter as required by the grant.
