A group of local Veterans from all branches of the military honored the thousands of fallen War Heroes on Monday, May 27, 2019, by holding a 5-mile Military Ruck.

The local Veterans group set off from the Fort Duncan Park area at 0800 hours, accompanied by family and supporters as they all paid tribute to those who lost their lives serving our Country.

“We take the time to honor and remember our fallen heroes during this Memorial Day. They paid with their lives so we can have the very freedoms that we have today,” said a military Veteran.

The Veteran group marched through the streets of Eagle Pass carrying their American Flags and military rucksacs as they reminisced of the time they too served our Country through their military service.

Locally, in Maverick County, it is estimated that there are over 1,500 military Veterans who have served our country. Over 53 of them died in combat.

“To those men and women we thank you for your service and remember your ultimate sacrifice during Memorial Day,” said another Veteran. The Veterans of Foreign War Post in Maverick County will be holding a Memorial Day Ceremony at the Maverick County Lake on Thursday, May 30, 2019, at 11:00 am. The community is invited to join in and honor our fallen heroes.
