On Tuesday, May 21, 2019, personnel from the Eagle Pass Fire Department participated in structure fire extractions tactical training sessions throughout the day.
The training took place at a home on Jefferson St. in which EPFD personnel entered the home under heavy plumes of smoke in a search and extraction training mission. Another group then trained in a search and rescue effort to extract a group of firefighters that were simulating they had been trapped in a burning home.
Eagle Pass Assistant Fire Chief Rudy Cardona states that EPFD personnel continuously prepare in different type of scenarios to familiarize themselves with whatever situation they may encounter in real life while on the job.
Training is the most important aspect of these individual’s jobs. This training will allow all personnel to be familiar with protocols for certain incidents and also allow them to practice with the equipment used in the line of service.
“We must train to be ready because in the time of emergencies anything that can go wrong more than likely will,” says Cardona.
