The City of Eagle Pass held an unveiling ceremony for the newly preserved and restored 111-year old Simpson residence located on Ceylon St. on Wednesday, May 15, 2019.

Master of Ceremony Juan Cuellar welcomed those in attendance and touched base on the city’s efforts to preserve, conserve and protect buildings, objects, landscapes and other artifacts of historical significance here in the City of Eagle Pass.

Eagle Pass Mayor officially proclaimed Historical Preservation Month by presenting the newly remodeled home as one of many preservation projects the city has planned under its historical grants/ Main Street program.

Mayor Cantu read a proclamation commemorating the moment and highlighting the importance of preserving our communities history in order to marvel at its beauty and remember the past and how the community was established and came to be.

“It is an honor to be here alongside with the owner of this home, Leticia Tamez, and the efforts that are being done through the Main Street Program,” said Cantu. “We want to thank Mrs. Tamez for preserving history.”

The Simpson was built 111 years ago by Samuel Simpson, a pioneer banker who came to Eagle Pass in 1883 and was associated with the city’s first bank in 1889, which was founded by his father. The home was constructed in 1908 and was recognized by the state as a historical landmark in 1972.
