During the event all police officers and law enforcement authorities were recognized for their hard work and dedication in keeping the peace in our community.
Eagle Pass Mayor Ramsey E. Cantu presented the Police Department with a proclamation honoring national police officers week
“We are thankful for your dedication to keeping us safe,” said Cantu. Eagle Pass Police Chief Albert Guajardo welcomed all in attendance, including officers from the Texas
Department of Public Safety, Texas Rangers office, Eagle Pass Police Department officers, Maverick County Sheriff Department, U.S. Border Patrol, and public officials from around the region to the event.
During the ceremony, Chief Guajardo acknowledged various peace officers for their dedication to the community.
Chief Guajardo proceeded to acknowledge various officers for their work with a presentation of plaques, including Sgt. Orlando J. Escareno, Sgt. Ulysses Saucedo, Sgt. Alberto Zapata, Sgt. Jose A. de la Garza “Big Joe”, K9 officer Macario “Mac” De Alba, and Parks Security Benino “Benny” Gutierrez Jr. Guajardo then presented Detective Corporal Abel Velasquez as the 2019 Police Officer of the Year for his outstanding service and dedication to the police force.
“We are blessed to have so many fine men and women who represent the law enforcement community and are here to protect and serve our citizens,” concluded Guajardo.
