Incumbents City Council members Yolanda Ramon and William “Billy” Davis won their bids at re-election in the Eagle Pass City Council election held on May 4, 2019.

During the early vote count, Ramon was up 258 votes with 478 votes cast in her favor. While Alfredo Arellano III was in second place with 220 votes. Hector Munoz Mijares received 14 votes. There were a total of 712 votes cast during the early voting period. Ramon’s opponents had a near impossible task to be able to catch up to her lead of 258 votes ahead with only 458 votes cast during election day. The odds that it would happen were against Mr. Arellano who needed more than 50 % of the votes cast on Saturday, May 4, just to catch up Ramon’s lead.

At the end of the entire election process, Ramon received a total of 734 votes ( 64 %), while Arrellano III had 34% or 394 votes, and Hector Munoz Mijares received 21 votes ( 2 %).

Ramon was declared the winner in her re-election bid. William (Billy) Davis received a total of 849 votes out of the 1,170 casts declaring him the winner. Davis did not draw an opponent during this election.

There was only 7 % (1,170 votes) participation from the 16,000 registered voters within city limits.

The city held election once again drew minimal interest in part of the registered voter within city limits. This type of apathy in part of the city registered voters is a bitter pill to swallow and brings up the question about civic responsibility.
