East 277 Highway at approximately 1:00 pm on Thursday, May 2, 2019.
Maverick County Sheriff Department Deputies, Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers and Eagle Pass Fire Department personnel were summoned to the scene of the accident.
Upon arriving at the scene of the accident, deputies made contact with the drivers of the commercial vehicles involved in the accident.
The roadway was quickly closed down to any traffic to allow for an investigation to be conducted to determine the cause of the accident.
Eagle Pass Fire Chief Manuel Mello reported that both drivers were hurt and required medical attention, with one of them having to be transported to the Fort
Duncan Regional Medical Centers Emergency Room for further evaluation.
The highway areas were closed down for several hours as work crews cleaned up the wreckage and removed one of the trailer’s Belly Dump from the middle of the roadway after it had overturned.
In the past years there have been numerous accidents in this stretch of highway, specifically at this intersection.
