The retail facility would be located in an area facility formerly occupied by Merco at Plaza Fiesta Bomer.
The project is expected to begin construction and possibly open by the beginning of 2020.
Locally, the opening of a Walmart across the border could negatively affect overall sales and business not just at our local Walmart store but in many other places as well. This would be in part due to the amount of potential commercial traffic that would be lost due to the potential opening of the Super Center in Piedras Negras.
Only time will tell what type of negative affect this opening will have to the local Eagle Pass economy.
Walmart currently owns and operated 7,895 stores across the world. Of those 5,537 or 70% of them are in the United States and 2,358 or 29% of them are in Mexico.
