were dropped off in Eagle Pass this Wednesday, April 10, 2019.
The individuals - which included men, women and children - were released by United States Border Patrol in the downtown area of the community near International Bridge No. 1 after being detained for crossing into the U.S. illegally.
The released migrants are part of the revived USCBP Catch and Release program that had not been used since 2014. Due to a great influx of migrants coming into the country through the Southwest Border and detention centers overfilled to capacity, Catch and Release has been initiated once again.
Up to now, there are hundreds of migrants who have been released in the Eagle Pass area under their own recognizance and with a promise to appear before a Federal Judge in the future.
Many of these individuals are boarding private tour vans that are set up in the downtown area and are traveling to San Antonio seeking humanitarian support at numerous shelters in that area. Those Shelters are also being overflowed with immigrants who have been detained and released by CBP.
The increase in undocumented immigrants being captured along the Southwest Border with Mexico is expected to continue as early fiscal year totals are already surpassing the previous year’s totals.
