A group of close to 50 people from all over the country - including from

Maverick County - held a two-day rally in support of President Donald Trump’s

push to build a barrier along the Southwest Border of the United States.

The group, organized by the Oath Keepers organization, held the event over the

weekend and expressed their sentiments and support to build a barrier along the

border.

During the event, numerous speakers talked about the issues with having an

unsecured border, and that building a barrier would address many of the issues at

hand.

Oath Keeper member, Retired Colonel U.S. Army John Seaman opened the

event. “Our total mission is to support the U.S. Constitution.”

Founder Steward Rhodes also expressed his concerns. “As we know the leftist want

open borders and oppose securing our borders, try to paint anyone wanting to

secure our borders as racist. That is an absolute lie.” Steward then expressed

his thoughts on why securing the border is so important to our country and its

communities. "My primary focus is in preserving our constitution. I put this operation

together to support President Trump’s efforts to secure our border.”

Local GOP Chairperson Alfredo Arrellano spoke in support of the President’s

efforts.

“This has become a major problem. It’s a humanitarian crisis. I agree with the

President’s National Emergency and encourage the Governor to issue a declaration

of emergency because we need to secure the border,” said Arrellano. Texas House

Representative for District 76 Kyle Biedermann was a guest speaker for the event.

“Our governor has said that there has been an emergency for more than a

decade. If that’s the case, then where's the priority for border security,” said

Biedermann “I am sponsoring a bill for Texas to build its own border wall, using

Texas funds.”

The hotly debated topic is sure to continue being the main topic on the President’s

agenda for the rest of his presidency.
