Chamber of Commerce held a ceremony to officially open a Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory
at the hospital which will benefit thousands of people in our region.
The event was held on Thursday, February 21, 2019, and was attended by numerous individuals from
the community, including several medical professionals and public officials. Fort Duncan Regional
Medical Centers CEO Eladio Montalvo welcomed all in attendance and spoke of the importance and
benefit that the Lab would be for the region.
“In collaboration with the MCHD, we were able to recruit an Interventional Cardiologist into Eagle
Pass. I would like to introduce Dr. Lon Walder,” said Montalvo. “It is a state of the art Cardiac Cath Lab
with a cost of $1,600,000.
As a result of this equipment, Dr. Walder and his team, for the first time ever in Eagle Pass, have been
able to perform cardiac stenting procedures. Up to now, they have performed 50 procedures.”
“ It’s been a pleasure to be here. Now we can do pacemakers, IVC filters, Cardiac Stents, Peripheral
Stents, Peripheral Angiopathy, and many other procedures that will save lives here in Eagle Pass.
The expense of sending people elsewhere for this care is a hardship to the patient and their families.
I’m very proud to bring those services here,” said Dr. Walder. The FDRMC administration then held a
ribbon cutting for the new state of the art Cardiac Cath Lab. A Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory is
important because it will allow for examinations to be performed with the proper diagnostic imaging
equipment used to visualize the arteries of the heart and the chambers of the heart and
treat any stenosis or abnormality found.
