and another two male adults were severely injured - in a motor vehicle accident on Thursday,
February 21, 2019, at approximately 5:40 pm.
Hernandez was a passenger in a 2008 Black/ Brown Ford Expedition when they impacted a
2001 White Dodge Ram Truck about five miles out of Eagle Pass on Highway 57. Maverick
County Sheriff Tom Schmerber reported that preliminary investigations revealed that the
Dodge Truck driven by 55- year-old Jesus Cabrera Pizano, from New Braunfels, was traveling
Northbound when the Ford Expedition, driven by 24- year-old Ramiro Martinez Jr. was traveling
southbound when it veered left onto the oncoming lane and struck the Dodge head-on. Eagle
Pass Fire Department personnel arrived at the scene and had to extract both Pizano and
Martinez from inside the wrecked vehicles using the Jaws of Life.
Pizano was then transported to the Fort Duncan Regional Medical Centers Emergency Room
for evaluation and treatment. Martinez Jr. was flown to a San Antonio, Texas hospital by Air Evac in
critical condition.
Tragically, Hernandez was dead on impact and was pronounced deceased by a Justice of the
Peace a short while after the accident occurred.
The Texas Department of Public Safety took over the fatal crash investigation.
