National Guard to arrive Monday

Border Patrol and Texas Department of Public

Safety officials held a press conference on Friday

February, 8, 2019 regarding the immigration crisis

being seen in our region. USCBP Eagle Pass Port

Director Paul del Rinco, Del Rio Sector Border

Patrol officials, Texas Department of Public

Safety and local officials discussed the different

preparedness operations being undertaken to plan

for any problems that could arise.

Del Rincon explained that USCBP continues its

efforts to expedite anyone who requests any type of

asylum claim. Texas State Representative

Poncho Nevarez emphasized the importance of

both sides of the river working in unison to take

care of this issue. Maverick County Judge

David Saucedo announced that the U.S. National

Guard is expected to arrive by Monday to assist in the

security efforts. Border Patrol officials

reported that a family of 5 from Honduras was rescued

from the Rio Grande river on Friday morning.

There were two children among the group rescued.
