EPFD report shows significant increase in emergency calls

The Eagle Pass Fire Department averaged a total of 505 emergency calls for the past 10 months. 

   Informational reports from the local fire department show that from January 1, 2018, to October 31, 2018, there were a total of 5,055 emergency calls attended to by the Fire Department an average of 505 calls per month. 

   During January there were 522 emergency calls, in February there were 513, March had 652, April 552, May 686, June 530, July 518, August 658, September 591, and October had 491. 

   The number of calls that were reported on a monthly basis to the Eagle Pass Fire Department increased by close to 45 % this fiscal year as compared to the previous year. 

   The Eagle Pass Fire Department (EPFD) is inundated with emergency calls, averaging 17 calls on a daily basis for the 10 month period from January to October. 

   EPFD Chief Manuel Mello states that this is a significant increase that has been seen. “ We’ve had quite an increase in calls as the City starts to grow. Our emergency call numbers have increased significantly and it puts a strain on our EMS system,” said Mello.
