The newly elected Eagle Pass Independent School District Board of Trustees held a reorganization election during their first meeting held on Tuesday November, 13.

During the EPISD Board meeting, President Lupita Fuentes asked if the board had any comments, suggestions or motions to consider for the position of EPISD Board President.

Board Trustee Christopher Hiller stated he had a motion to consider. “I’d like to nominate Jorge Barrera for President,” said Hiller. Trustee Glenna Purcell seconded the motion.

Fuentes then called for a vote on the motion and it was passed on a unanimous vote.

Barrera then took the seat of President. Barrera asked if anyone had a motion to name a Vice-President.

Dr. Hector Alvarez motioned to keep Trustee Hilda Martinez as Vice- President. The motion was also approved on a unanimous vote.

The EPISD trustees also voted to name Alvarez as the Board’s Secretary.

Barrera commented that he would like to thank Fuentes for her vision and leadership and he hopes to continue guiding the district in the way that she has.

Hiller stated that he made the motion to choose Barrera in an effort to allow for all the trustees to have an opportunity to lead the board.

Barrera did suggest that the board consider changing the leadership every two years.

The EPISD trustees concurred with Barrera.
