EP Code Enforcement employees Gerardo Tijerina and Christian Rodriguez were recognized by the City Council during their meeting held on Tuesday, November 6, 2018.
Eagle Pass Mayor Ramsey E. Cantu stated that while out performing daily duties the two employees had encountered a male adult who was lying and unresponsive out in the porch area of his home. The two young men immediately began to try to revive the man and called 911.
“On Tuesday, September 10 at approximately 10:40 am Code Enforcement Gerardo Tijerina and Christian Rodriguez were in the vicinity of the 600 block of Medina St. conducting inspections when they observed an elderly man that had collapsed. Both officers exited their unit and saw that the man was unresponsive. They then moved him from the brush area and placed him on his side and immediately called 911 for medical assistance. EMS was summoned and arrived to conduct CPR and first aid on the man. The elderly male was transported to the Fort Duncan Regional Medical Centers Emergency Room for further treatment. Due to the quick response of both Code Enforcement officers and how they handled the situation, accordingly and the assistance, they provided to the victim the elderly male is alive and doing very well,” said Cantu. ”You have gone above and beyond the call of duty in assuring that the life of an individual was saved and today is gratefully living among us due to your responsiveness and work you did.”
The City Council proceeded to present both Eagle Pass employees with a recognition of commendation awards for their actions which ultimately led to the man’s life being saved.
The elderly male is recuperating from his ailment.
