Sergio Hernandez Wins District 29-6A Cross Country Championship in Laredo Both Eagles/Lady Eagles Advance To Region IV XC Championships

Sergio Hernandez is you District 29-AAAAAA XC Champion. Hernandez helped his team advance to the Region IV Cross Country Championship with an amazing 15:47.42. Teammate Diego Davila came in sixth with a 16:24.41 while Homar Perez placed 19th, Sebastian Villarreal 21st, Alan Davila 22nd, Oscar Ruiz 25th and Luis Rodriguez 34th.

The Eagles as a team placed second behind Del Rio who won the district title easily 30 to Eagle Pass’ 69. Laredo Nixon placed 3rd with 84 points, United was fourth with 116 and Alexander was fifth with 122.  In the Varsity Girls Division, Shania Luna placed third in the district with a 19:09.37. The Lady Eagles are also advancing to Regionals as they came in second place by a slim six point margin having been outlasted by Laredo United 54 to 60.

Teammates Andrea Garcia came in in a pack and placed 11th, Karina Fernandez came in 13th, Yanel Garza was 14th, Isel Garza was 19th, Jackeline Garza and Jenna Ruiz came in 26th.

As a team, The Lady Eagles placed 2nd behind Laredo United by a score of 54-60. Del Rio was second with 84, United South was fourth with 94 and Alexander fifth with 98.

“I’m extremely proud of our kids,“ said Coach Juan Gonzalez, “On the boys side, we were picked to place fourth and we came in second. On the girls side, we trained through the season and the goal was to be peaking by regionals and I think we are on track.“

Both the Eagles and Lady Eagles travel to Corpus Christi’s Dugan Stadium on the campus of Texas A&M University-CC for the Region IV Championships on Friday, October 22nd and run at 7:30 and 8:00 AM.
