The trio met for numerous hours with the intent to establish collaborative working agreements that will ensure the safety and peace of both border communities. District Attorney Roberto Serna stated that he looks forward in continuing an open dialogue between newly elected Piedras Negras Mayor and our community. “We have a strong relationship and seek what’s best for both communities. We’re meeting to begin talking about what more we can do to strengthen our bond with each other as bordering communities,” said Serna.
"Our region continues to grow at a fast pace and that is a positive sign. But with the growth we also have negative problems.
One of our main concerns and priorities is to assure the safety and well-being of our residents on both sides of the border," said Claudio Bres.
Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber added that although both communities are separated by a river and international boundary, we’re actually one.
“We continue looking at how we can grow our relations and work together in more ways than one. Some of those ways include cooperation between law enforcement agencies on both sides of the river to help one another keep the peace,” said Schmerber.
