The United Medical Centers invites the community to a Breast Cancer Awareness event to be held on Wednesday, October,10 from 10 a.m. 2:12 p.m.

The awareness event will be held at the City of Eagle Pass ITC Center and will feature a class on breast cancer and is free to the public.

Statistics show that one out of women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. This year alone we will lose approximately 43,000 individuals to breast cancer. Another 200,00 people will be diagnosed with breast cancer, this year alone.

Developing Breast Cancer is not a death sentence, if caught early, the chances of survival increase by large margins.

The month of October is designated National Breast Cancer Awareness Month across the United States. During this time survivors and those who have lost their lives are remembered and honored with bringing focus to the disease all over the country.

It’s recommended that all women over the age of 40 years old to get annual Mammograms.

Individuals that develop the disease do survive. Across the country, there are over 3.1 million breast cancer survivors.

Medical statistics show that a woman’s risk of breast cancer approximately doubles if she has a first-degree relative (mother, sister, daughter) who has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Statistics show that approximately 16 % of women who develop breast cancer have had a family member who has also been diagnosed with it.

Breast Cancer diagnosis steadily grows on a year to year basis in the U.S. That is why medical professionals state that early detection and Mammograms are so important.
