Traci Leos of EPJ came in 7th and Reese Hinojo was 8th. Memorial’s Sophia Garza placed 9th and EPJ’s Regina Armendariz came in 11th in the 7th grade division.
Memorial’s Greitxel Huitron, Denali Gomez, Helen Gomez, Shantell Martinez and Samantha Orta came in back-tabac-to-back ion 13th thru 17th to help the girls win the meet as a team with 27 points. EPJ was second with 30 points.
Sebastian Mata Wins 7th Grade Race;
Crystal City Takes First Place w/ 15 Pts.
Sebastian Mata of Eagle Pass Junior High won the seventh grade division Cross Country race at the Winn Invitational on Wednesday with a 13:33.0. Crystal City’s Jeremial Moncada and Juan Garcia came in second and third respectively.
Memorial’s Julian Hinojosa and Jared Salinas came in fourth and fifth and Eagle Pass Junior High’s Carlos De Los Santos placed 8th. Carlos Niño of MJH was 9th and Jose Urrabazo placed 11th.
Crystal City took first place with a total of 15 points.

Wins JV Girls Division Title
Ana Cristina Delgado of Eagle Pass High School won the CC Winn Invitational Cross Country JV Division race with and impressive 15:25.00. Her teammates came in one after another to help Coach Juan Gonzalez’ squad win the meet with an amazing 15 points as Karla Aguilar, Alitzel Flores, Eileen Marines, Abigail Solis and Gabriela Montes came in right after her.
CC Winn’s Amber Vielma, Jennifer Martinez and Haziel Nota placed 7th, 8th and 9th and EP High’s Alicia Hoffman, Guliana Castillo and Alexia Limon placed 11th, 12th and 13th. Wins Diseiree Vielma and Belen Sanchez were 14th and 15th.
Maximus Galvan Wins JV Division XC Race
Eagle Pass High School came in with an amazing twelve racers in a row to win the CC Winn Invitational Meet by a landslide and Maximus Galvan led the pack of twelve with an incredible 19:16.00.
Galvan was followed by Julio Rodriguez, Michael Lozano, Adam Crone, Andres Gomez, George Sanchez, Julian Garza, Aaron Crone, Joshua Villarreal, Eric Gomez, Raul Flores and Jeremiah Smith.
Winn’s Gustavo Galvan and Andres Flores placed 13th and 14th and Evan Galarza and Luis Era of EP High came in at 14th and 15th.
Yanel Garza Wins CC Winn XC Meet Race
Yanel Garza won the Varsity Girls Division Title at the CC Winn Invitational Cross Country Meet held on Wednesday at the Eagle Pass Municipal Golf Course.
Garza ran a 22:14.00 to win the event and teammates Isel Garza, Brianna Vasquez and Karina Fernandez came in right behind.
Shantell Garcia of CC Winn placed 5th with a 23:02.00. EP High’s Ana Cristina Alvarez Yahaira Almaguer, Iliana Lopez, Roxana Escareño and Jackeline Garza placed 6th thru 10th respectively and CC Winn’s Arleth Herrera, Karina Rodriguez, Alondra Peralta and Kiana Diaz came in 11th thru 14th.
“On the girls side it’s a three team race for District Champion between us United and United South,” said Coach Juan Gonzalez.
“Our girls got third place in District last year and went on to Regionals as a team,” said A.T. Garza of Winn’s girls team, “They’re looking real good this year. We’re looking for good things at District come Thursday.”
Winn travels to Castroville for District on Thursday and The Eagles are off to The Gateway City at Laredo’s Casablanca Golf Course for District on Friday.
EPH:s Sergio Hernandez Takes Winn Invitational Title
Coach Juan Gonzalez’ Sergio Hernandez won the CC Winn Invitational Cross Country Varsity Boys Division Race with a 16:51.00 and A.T. Garza’s Ricardo Garcia came in right behind with a 13:29.00, then it was Eagle Pass High School’s Oscar Ruiz, Diego Davila, Homar Perez and Sergio Gomez placed 3rd thru 6th respectively.
Moises Villarreal came in 7th, EP’s Alan Davila 8th, Winn’s Orlando Molina and Ryan Vidal 8th and 9th, EP’s Luis Rodriguez, 10th, Wins Felipe Flores 12th, EP’s Noah Gonzalez 13th and Rolando Gonzalez, Anthony De Luna, Jesus Negrete, Ricardo Gomez and Cesar Juarez placed 14th thru 18th respectively.
“This was a small meet, but a good tune-up for District,” said Eagle Coach Juan Gonzalez, “We’re looking good, we’re a little banged up today, we have some of our kids sitting this one out, but we’re just getting ready and not risking any further injuries. We have good running weather here today.”
When asked what could be expected from competition next week, Gonzalez said, “Laredo’s tough, but on the boys side, Del Rio’s ahead. It’s a three team race for second and third for a spot at the Regional Meet between us, Alexander and Nixon.
“Last year the boys got Runners-up at District by six points, we could have been District Champions,” said Coach A.T. Garza of CC Winn High School, “We have a lot of those boys coming back and they’re very hungry.” The District Meet will be held in Castroville, Texas next Thursday for CC Winn and in Laredo at Casablanca Golf Course for The Eagles next Friday.
