Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber welcomed those in attendance and thanked the County Commissioners Court for working alongside the Sheriff Department to obtain the new vehicles.
“We are grateful that we can begin to use these vehicles to patrol and keep the county residents safe,” said Schmerber. “We will soon be adding another two patrol units and a transportation van which has been approved under the new 2018/2019 budget.”
“I want to let the public know that your safety and well-being is my main concern and priority,” added Schmerber.
Sheriff Schmerber then introduced Maverick County Judge David Saucedo. Judge Saucedo added that the County’s main priority is being able to provide adequate services to the community and safety is at the top of those priorities.
“We continue moving forward and are here to serve the community. We needed to assure that we had the necessary equipment to serve our community. These vehicles are part of that and we will continue looking out for the community’s best interest, We are now at a stage where we can make improvements within our departments and will continue to do so for the betterment of the entire community,” said Saucedo
Sheriff Schmerber introduced Ignacio Saucedo who presented the 7 vehicles specifications and costs.
“Each vehicle came in at approximately $ 53,000 for a total cost of close to $380,000,” said Saucedo.
Saucedo gave a rundown of some of the equipment that the units will be equipped with including License Plate reader and infrared (Night Camera) system.
